There has been a lot of talk in recent years about “adrenaline junkies” – people who have become addicted to adventure activities. Being a company that runs these activities, we definitely have seen a lot of these types of people. In and of itself, an adrenaline addiction can be just as harmful as a drug or alcohol addiction. But can someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol use adrenaline adventures as a tool in their recovery? Possibly.
There have been some studies recently about the power of adrenaline adventures in recovery. A group of people in treatment for substance use disorder were taken to do adrenaline adventures similar to our jetpack experience, and the group that performed the adrenaline adventures generally were seen to have a better success rate than the group that didn’t.
Now, this isn’t to say that if you are having a drug or alcohol problem, you should just go bungee jumping and forget about treatment. If you are suffering from a substance abuse issue, it’s imperative that you find the right treatment for you. However, if you have already successfully been through a treatment program, and you are finding it difficult to transition back into your normal life, it may be a good idea to try some adrenaline adventures such as our jetpack experience or our flyboard experience.
